A CHHA or CNA cares for elderly, convalescent, or disabled persons in client's home, assisted living facility, or other settting by performing the following duties (Other duties may be assigned):
- Assists client to dress, bathe, and groom self.
- Prepares and serves food for client following special prescribed diets.
- Assists clients into and out of bed, automobile, or wheelchair, to lavatory, and up and down stairs.
- Reminds client to take prescribed medications as directed by physician or home care nurse.
- Provides socialization for clients with activities such as reading aloud, playing cards, or other games.
- Maintains records of services performed and of apparent condition of client, and reports any changes in condition to Case Manager and family.
- Changes bed linens, maintains client's laundry, and performs light cleaning of client's quarters.
- Accompanies ambulatory clients outside home, serving as guide, companion, and aide.
- Assists client with prescribed exercises to increase range of motion.
- Massages client and applies preparations and treatments such as liniment or alcohol rubs and heat lamp stimulation.
- Performs variety of miscellaneous duties as needed such as obtaining household supplies and running errands.
Qualifications : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Two years experience as a certified home health aide in a private home.
- Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems which vary somewhat in the details but are not unusual to the home care setting

Clients live in communities throughout the metropolitan Boston area. Our Companions provide socialization and support for elders, visiting them in their homes and reading to them, taking walks, preparing light meals, and other activities.
Under the supervision of the RN clinical manager, conduct comprehensive in-home assessments (completion of the MDSHC form) for elders and persons with disabilities in Boston, Somerville, Cambridge and surrounding towns. Paid time for training is provided for proper completion of the MDSHC form.
Qualifications: Current RN license in Massachusetts with at least two years experience, preferably in home health care or geriatric care in a facility.
Flexible hours can include Saturdays and early evenings on weekdays. Compensation is based on each completed MDSHC form. Call for more information.
